The world’s population is aging at a rapid rate. The three age brackets of the elderly, 65-74, 75-84 and over 85 are all increasing faster than any other age brackets. This trend will continue as the Baby Boomers reach the age of 65 through the year 2020. By the year 2020 it is expected that there will be 54 million people over the age of 65 and of those, 6.5 million will be over the age of 85.

What’s my point?

This generation that is now becoming our elderly population has always had a major impact on society. They strained the education systems and the labor market and will soon have an impact on health care and all levels of care homes. They also make their own way in the world in an amazingly unique fashion. There is no doubt that they are going to show the world the new face of aging. They will make us better at providing care, products and services to this sometimes underserved age bracket. The new generation of elderly will age with energy, enthusiasm, style and most certainly with grace.
